A Pocket PC is a smaller version of your normal computer. It’s just about the size of your shirt pocket, but it’s got all the sophisticated capabilities of a desktop computer. Pocket PCs run a specific version of the Windows CE operating system. According to Microsoft, the Pocket PC is “A handheld device that enables users to store and retrieve e-mail, contacts, appointments, tasks, play multimedia files, games, exchange text messages with MSN Messenger, browse the Web, and more.”

The current software release by Microsoft for Pocket PC is Windows Mobile 5.0, internally code-named Magneto. The Windows Mobile 5.0 incorporates features like Direct3D Mobile, and integrated Bluetooth and WiFi stacks. It also provides improved support for one-handed usage through context-sensitive “soft” buttons inserted at the bottom of the screen which can be mapped to hardware buttons on any specific device.

The Pocket-PC device is available in variety of designs and memory sizes. If you require more memory than what’s available in your Pocket PC device, just buy add-on memory cards to upgrade the memory size. Some important makers of Pocket PC are HP, Toshiba, Acer, ASUS, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, HTC, and ViewSonic. The price for a Pocket PC in 2003 was around $800 USD for high-end models and around $200 for low-end models.
