Personal computers came into existence in the year 1970 by Apple computers. Then in the early 1980 new models were introduced by companies often. In the year 1981 IBM came into the field of personal computers with its product IBMPC.

Personal computers are one that is designed specifically for an individual user. A personal computer is inexpensive and the price ranges from few hundred dollars to few thousand dollars. Personal computers producers uses microprocessor technology, this enables the producers to put the whole CPU in a single chip.

Personal computers are used by business people for word processing, accounting, desktop publishing, spread sheets and for database management systems. Personal computers at home are used mainly for playing games.

Now-a-day’s the world’s personal computers are divided into Apple Macintosh and PC’s. The principle behind a personal computer is they are single user systems build up with microprocessor. The differences between the personal computers and the work stations have faded, high end models offers more or less the same computing and graphics capabilities.
