Personal Computers are meant for individual or personal use. These computers can be now purchased at a rate of few hundreds and thousands of dollars. All are based on the microprocessor technology that enables manufacturers to put an entire CPU on one chip. At home, personal computers are used for playing games. But in business personal computers are used for word processing, accounting, desktop publishing, running spreadsheet and database management processing.

The first and foremast personal computer was the Apple II, introduced in 1977 by Apple Computer. Then came to the market in 1981 the IBM Company’s computer which was called as IBM PC. In a short span of time it caught the market and all other companies’ computers all fell down. But Apple II which was introduced first is not affected by IBM PC computer. There were many other innovations of IBM computers, but only a few clicks in the market. But it has the same software as IBM PC. Over the years IBM has lost much of its influence in directing the evolution of PCs. Many of its innovations such as MCA expansion bus and the OS/2 operating system have not achieved success in the market. Though personal computers are designed as single-user systems, it is common to link them together to form a network.
